Slagwerker Tatiana Koleva haalt uit alles een geluid. En dan bedoelen we: álles. Dus waarom niet een cactus omtoveren tot een muziekinstrument? Samen met de Youth Percussion Pool maakte zij ‘How to play the Cactus’: een bijzondere voorstelling waarin beroemde slagwerkcomposities worden gecombineerd met improvisaties en soundtracks. De concerten worden gegeven op prachtige locaties, en het publiek doet met de muzikanten mee. “In de voorstelling zetten we de cactus in als volwaardig instrument”, vertelt Tatiana. “Maar de cactus symboliseert ook de huidige tijd waarin wij leven.”

An interactive (location) concert with favorite percussion music by Reich, Xenakis, Cage brand-new soundtracks and the cactus in the spotlight as a music instrument. Last but not least with the participation of the audience HTPTC is a program the reflects on the world of today: the nature (making music with object from the nature), isolation and loneliness (many restrictions in freedom), fear (Covid 19 = the spikes of the cactus), longing to be together (participation of the audience), but before all adapt to the new situation. In HTPTC famous percussion compositions are combined with improvisations and new soundtracks. The staging is dependent on the natural decor of the chosen location. The cactus in this case is not only essential part of the instrumentation but works also as a metaphor for survivor, as a symbol of isolation and the restrictions and challenges we are all facing.

Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam

De serie Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam biedt een podium aan hedendaagse kamermuziek én denkers van nu, waar (inter)nationale componisten premières laten horen en er gesprekken worden gevoerd met kenners uit de Nederlandse muziekwereld.

In het Plein Theater krijg je de kans om dit unieke concept in intieme sfeer te ervaren, waarbij na afloop ruimte is om in gesprek te gaan met de uitvoerenden. De curatoren en hosts van deze serie zijn componist Aspasia Nasopoulou en basklarinettist Fie Schouten.
