In the media // Ping pong on the harpsichord with Belgian experimental duo Two Envelopes (NRC)
There are a lot of duos in the world of classical music, but you rarely come across a duo of harpsichord and percussion. The unique duo Two Envelopes from Belgium are this year 'ensemble in residence' during the Gaudeamus Music week, the Utrecht festival for young creators. Two Envelopes will perform twice, on Thursday and Saturday, and can also be seen in Amsterdam on the 18th of September (at Plein Theater!).
Apart from the illustrious duo of harpsichordist Elisabeth Chojnacka and percussionist Sylvio Gualda, Two Envelopes has no predecessors. But the fact that there is hardly any repertoire for their combination of instruments did not stop them: “There was a musical click”, says percussionist Jacob Vanneste. And it leaves a lot of room for experimentation,” adds harpsichordist Lisa Kokwenda Schweiger.
