MUSIC
Shishani means 'crown' in one of Namibia's native languages. She is a versatile artist whose music transcends genres and cultures. Shishani is a singer, guitarist and songwriter, loved for her soothing and powerful voice.
Kaoutar Music is an art director and singer-songwriter. Her lyrics are a reflection of her view of the world and an expression of her feeling, in which she wants to take the audience along. Inspired by reggae, soul, folk and hip-hop, Kaoutar is always exploring new sounds. Emotion and reality is what you feel in her music.
COMEDY
Soufiane Moussouli is an actor, theater maker and storyteller. You may know him from performances he made himself as Moroccans Do Not Cry, Fortune Seeker and According to Me I Am A Jew. Or from the performance EIGHTEEN directed by Bram Jansen. And if you don't know it by then, you certainly know him from the role of Habib in the Mocro Mafia series.
Robbie Wallin is an actor, theater maker and comedian. In his solo performance BAKFIETS, with which he made his debut as a soloist in 2021, he talks about how Amsterdam is changing. Robbie combines elements of stand-up comedy and storytelling and will host this afternoon.
Veronique Efomi is a poet, spoken word artist, songwriter and author. She is, in her own words, 'a hopping bridge between the public and hidden emotions'. Veronique uses themes such as, for example, her youth, relationships, various taboos, fears and femininity. Her stories are true, almost rhythmic and rhyming, with a mix of relief, strength and vulnerability, hidden under triple layers, unexpected twists and fits of absurdism.
Lev Avitan is a writer, public thinker, graduate political philosopher and spoken word artist. De Arnhemmer, who now lives in Amsterdam, has an authentic style. Lev grew up in Presikhaaf, then labeled Vogelaarswijk, where he was confronted with poverty, gentrification, racism and Muslim hatred. From sharp and critical angles he knows how to capture his own life experiences in words and connect them to social debates. In his work, Lev discusses these subjects, makes them tangible in an understandable way and provides connection and healing with the power of language.
Young talents from the Nowhere X Poetry Circle workshop series will be making themselves heard for the first time during EAST&.
