Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam
Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam, the concert series for small-scale contemporary chamber music, is celebrating a five-year anniversary this season! In 2025, the series will once again bring leading musicians and brand new compositions to the Plein Theater and Orgelpark in Amsterdam. With a program full of concerts for the adventurous listener and new innovative music lessons, Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam devotedly offers a platform for audiences and makers. The concerts take place on Sunday afternoons and are preceded by a short introduction by curators Fie Schouten and Aspasia Nasopoulou. Are you a student, composer or musician? Then there is an extra discount on an entrance ticket.
Lessons for composers, musicians and beginners
New in 2025 are music lessons that will be offered prior to the concerts. Lessons are taught in composing and performing contemporary compositions. Under the guidance of Fie Schouten and percussionist/composer Ruud Roelofsen, participants learn to compose and play with alternative techniques. A link is made between creating the composition and playing itself. The workshops are open to everyone, from curious beginners to advanced musicians, youngsters (12+) and adults. “It's great to have a place where you can learn and experience new things, and then chat together in a cozy café” says Schouten. The first class will take place on March 16 and starts at 12:30 in the Plein Theater. You can register for the lessons via the ticket shop, where you can also buy a ticket for the concert.
A home for contemporary music
Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam was founded to nourish and bring together a community of performers, makers and audiences in a small concert hall. Curator Schouten says: “This music is not a mass product, and that makes a series like this so important. We offer a permanent place where contemporary music lives, is shared and reaches new audiences. Musicians from different generations meet here, from recently graduated talents to experienced professionals.”

Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam: Goska Isphording & Oguz Büyükberber
Goska Isphording - (clavecimbel), Oguz Büyükberber - (bas)klarinet & video
The new year opens on Sunday January 19 in the Plein Theater with Goska Isphording (harpsichord) and Oguz Büyükberber (clarinet and video). They perform two intimate solo works. Isphording plays a program with three female voices, full of purity and profound expressiveness, in which inner conviction and natural beauty go together. With PROCESSING, Büyükberber, as a multidisciplinary artist and 95% blind individual, wants to create a safe space to explore personal trauma in an expressive way.

This season, the Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam series collaborates a number of times with the Orgelpark, which invites an organist as a counterpoint. Described as “a powerhouse of contemporary keyboard repertoire” (Tempo), pianist and composer Xenia Pestova Bennett has built an international reputation as a leading proponent of uncompromising music. The young, talented organist Franscesca Ajossa has already completed three musical courses with the highest distinction at the age of 25 and is now in demand as a musician at home and abroad.
