In Amsterdam Talks Sex belicht Handan verschillende kanten van seksualiteit door verschillende experts te interviewen met hun blik op dit onderwerp. Te gast in deze editie zijn Roula Tourgaidis en Izabela Szachniewicz.

De eerstvolgende editie van Amsterdam Talks Sex op zondag 25 april gaat over vrouwen en relaties met jongere mannen, taboes en schaamte. Te gast zijn Roula Tourgaidis en Izabela Szachniewicz. 

Het kunstwerk Ecognosis is geïnspireerd door het boek The World Without Us van Alan Weisman. Hierin wordt beschreven hoe de natuur weer alles zou overnemen en overwoekeren zodra de mens is uitgestorven.

In deze editie gaat Amsterdam Talks Sex in op het thema homoseksualiteit; Hoe sexy is het om homo te zijn?

Plein Theater start een crowdfunding en roept cultuurliefhebbers, bezoekers, buurtbewoners en iedereen met een hart voor het Plein Theater op om steun te bieden in de corona-crisis.

Drie weken terug is Plein Theater een petitie gestart en verzoekt daarmee de Gemeente Amsterdam, en in het bijzonder wethouder van Kunst en Cultuur Touria Meliani, om financiële steun te verlenen voor het behoud van het theater. De petitie is meer dan 1600 keer ondertekend.

Dorit Weintal is a multidisciplinary artist, dancer and choreographer. In TRUST, her latest project, she thoroughly explores how we trust when we walk the path of the unknown. The path of extreme insecurity. A yearlong research resulted in a dance film, a documentary film, dance performances and a music concert with refugees and asylum seekers.

Een podium van de wereld om ons heen met een internationale oriëntatie: Het PLEIN THEATER is een unieke plek in Amsterdam Oost met theater, dans en muziek voor kinderen, jongeren en volwassenen. Wekelijks gaat trompettist Gijs Levelt, bekend van o.a. de Amsterdam Klezmer Band, in het PLEIN THEATER de creatieve ontmoeting aan met inspirerende gasten uit de Amsterdamse culturele scene.

Dúplum duo is inspired by modern poetry and contemporary performances of lieder / art song. Using only voice and viola, Björk Níelsdóttir and Thora Sveinsdóttir evoke a simple, unpolished intimacy.

Het Syrène Saxofoonkwartet bestaat uit vier vrouwen die zich vernoemd hebben naar de Sirenen uit Homerus' Odyssee: zeegodinnen die met helder gezang zeelieden verlokken. Syrène wil de toehoorder uitnodigen met haar muziek en de klassieke saxofoon laten klinken bij een uiteenlopend publiek.

Niets te verliezen is een reeks gedichten van Nafiss vertaald naar beelden en muziek. Voor de beelden maakt Cat foam sculpturen geïnspireerd op bestaande kunstwerken die ze tot leven wekt in een choreografie op muziek van Floris.

Sit Sit plays cutting edge improvised music. Onno Govaert, Tobias Klein and Jasper Stadhouders are very active in the Amsterdam jazz / impro scene where they have collaborated in various ensembles and projects.

Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam presents: Interview by curator Fie Schouten with Roberto Geneva about the composition that composer Aspasia Nasopoulou wrote for him. He will then play the piece Carousel of Fantasies (2015/2020) for alto saxophone.

Youngsters from Amsterdam-East, led by theater maker Nilay Ceber, immersed themselves in the history of Amsterdam during the Second World War and in the city at a standstill due to the corona virus. Their digital research forms the basis for the theatre film Hoe het was.

On May 4 at 19:58 Gijs Levelt, the trumpet player of the Amsterdam Klezmer Band and resident of Amsterdam East, played the taptoe from above the roofs of the Sajetplein. In collaboration with the fire brigade, the trumpet player was lifted 24 meters above the ground where he heralded the two-minute silence.

Meet the first club of creators and co-creators of the PLEIN THEATER. During 2019 they worked on presentations in the field of dance, theatre making and writing. This resulted in special moments and two dynamic festival weeks.

Nacer / Birth is an ode to midwives from Otavalo, Ecuador. Berith Danse, director of PLEIN THEATER and director of the play, tells about making the play in 2015 and running a theatre in the east of Amsterdam.

The highlight of ICAF (International Community Arts Festival) 2020: Nacer / Birth - Humor y vida & Berith Danse, will be shown in PLEIN THEATER at the 20th and 21th of march.

Van 3 tot en met 13 oktober is de 16e editie van het Afro_Vibes Festival op 12 podia in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag en Utrecht. Het festival brengt actuele theater- en dansvoorstellingen, muziek, film en design uit grootstedelijke culturele hotspots in Afrika.

Van 2 t/m 13 oktober is het kinderboekenweek. Het thema van dit jaar is: Reis mee! In Plein Theater hebben we maar liefst twee theatervoorstellingen spelen die gebaseerd zijn op kinderboeken!

Wie of wat ben jij nog in deze tijd? Of zijn we wat wel altijd al zijn geweest? Wat zetten we neer en wat willen we zien?

Fie Schouten, basklarinettist, initiator en curator van Nieuwe NOTEN Amsterdam, ontving de Fair Practice Compositie Opdracht Award 2019! Gefeliciteerd !

Zaterdag 22 juni 2019 presenteert het Plein Theater de start van concertserie Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam. In het openingsconcert presenteert componist/maker Merlijn Twaalfhoven “Composers Treat” 2019, speelt het Dudok Quartet strijkkwartett en van Hartmann en Keuris. Masterstudenten van het Conservatorium van Amsterdam: Marta Fossas Mallorquí, José Nunes en Pau Sola Masafrets brengen het trio van Max Knigge. Curatoren van de serie zijn klarinettiste Fie Schouten en componist Aspasia Nasopoulou.

Trots dat deze fantastische groep in ons Plein Theater repeteert en vervolgens met PRIDE op de Dam staat! Het Amsterdam Gay Men's Chorus klonk weer fantastisch!

Bij het openingsconcert van Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam op 22 juni gaat Merlijn Twaalfhoven op zoek naar een rol voor kunstenaars bij de grote maatschappelijke uitdagingen van vandaag. Samen met de aanwezigen vraagt hij zich af hoe we nieuwe helden kunnen vinden in deze tijd van klimaatverval, kunstmatige intelligentie en toenemende polarisatie.

Deze zomer zet het Plein Theater de deuren van het productiehuis wijd open! Wij verwelkomen in het PLEIN THEATER: Dayna Martinez Morales (Bolivia), die met het programma ‘The Artist is Resident’ met jou wil werken aan een installatie performance. Haar werkwijzen zijn de traditionele dansen uit Bolivia en hedendaagse dans uit Europa en West-Afrika. Dayna zoekt naar verbindingen tussen oude en nieuwe cultuur, identiteit, ritueel en transformatie.

Nieuwe noten Amsterdam. In deze serie voor hedendaagse kamermuziek worden werken en ideeën van bekende ensembles, jonge musici en denkers gepresenteerd, in klank en woord. Bij elk concert is er een speciale gast die een actueel thema aansnijdt en de musici en het publiek betrekt.

Afgelopen 9 maart lanceerden we onze nieuwe naam en koers van PLEIN THEATER!

PLEIN THEATER zoekt verhalen! Verhalen van mensen die als kind de Tweede Wereldoorlog hebben meegemaakt en hierover in gesprek willen gaan met jonge toneelspelers. We zijn met name op zoek naar mensen met een Joodse achtergrond die in Amsterdam Oost verbleven gedurende de bezetting.
