From April 3 to 7, Plein Theater presents the Queering Puppets Festival Amsterdam together with Cat Smits Company!

Since 2022, Queering Puppets Festival Amsterdam has offered a stage for genre-transcending forms of visual theatre, object theatre, puppetry and queer perspectives. In the safe space that puppetry creates, everyone can be whoever he, she, them is. Plein Theater and Cat Smits Company defy the norm with this festival full of colorful visual outbursts Queering Puppets is LGBTIQA+ friendly, feminist, activist and above all standing out in queerness! In this third edition from April 3 to 7, 2024, the theme is Weapons of the weak.

WEAPONS OF THE WEAK

Weapons of the weak highlights the power of vulnerability as a political instrument. Puppetry and object theater use the objectification of the personal to reveal deeper layers of society. It refers to the book by James C. Scott, in which he describes everyday techniques of evasion and resistance of regimes or systems. In this we see a link to the role of puppetry in different societies worldwide. Puppetry uses its 'weakness' – not mainstream, seen as funny, cute and harmless – as a strength, making it an effective tool for change of conception and behavior.

PROGRAM

The Queering Puppets Festival Amsterdam will be festively opened on Wednesday, April 3 from 19:00 with opening words from district councilor Jan-Bert Vroege and artistic leaders Cat Smits and Berith Danse, the opening of the Splitter Splatter exhibition and various acts. A highlight of the program is the farewell performance of puppeteer Neville Tranter, one of the world's best-known puppeteers, on Friday evening. After 40 years on stage, Tranter presents his very last performance 'UBU'. On the program as well are TamTam Objektentheater, Theatergroup Knars, Cat Smits Company, Jose Navarro and Splitter Splatter in concert, completed with acts, talks and DJ Nights! Recommendation: Combi tickets are available to enjoy the program for an entire evening and daily specials can be ordered in advance to enjoy a meal from Robin Food's kitchen!

• You can order a daily special from Robin Food Dinner in the ticket shop as well
   
• On some days a Program Combi Ticket is available, which gives you access to all performances on that day or evening (excluding the Robin Food Dinner).
   
• Some programs are freely accesible. You can sign in for them in the ticket shop, but a reservation is not required.
   
• Tickets include a coin for a drink, which is worth a soda, coffee, tea, pilsener, wine or a Pringles mini at the bar.
   
• We offer discounts for (art) students and city pass holders with a green dot! Take your pass or proof with you to the cash register, it will be scanned and/or checked.
